4 Free Methods to Market Your Business

digital marketing, marketing, customer retention

One thing that I have noticed with starting my own business this past winter is that it is really difficult to find and retain customers. I haven’t actually found any as of yet, but I just started the business site back in November. So I know that it’ll take a lot of time and patience before search engines even see my site. Kind of frustrating as I am not the most patient of people, but you live and learn so it’s all good.

4 methods to market

  1. Create Local Awareness
  2. Increase Lead Generation / Customer Engagement with Email Marketing
  3. Use Social Media
  4. Stand on the Shoulders of Your Customers

In creating local awareness, I really need to learn how to do this one. Use local papers, trade magazines and websites to build name recognition. The problem with people like me is that we don’t have the money for this, so my best bet would be to do some research, find an author I’d like to work with and see if I could write a post or article for them on their sites.

I know email marketing is the best way to digitally market myself, but I don’t have an email list as of yet. So I’ll worry about that when it’s time. One thing I have used to my advantage though is social media. I have my professional sites up and running and building a strong following. It isn’t a waste of time like some companies would think. There are a lot of people out there who use social media and find companies that they like this way too. I had no idea that there was such a strong community of people of the niche that I chose to market too. Just take your time getting to know your audience, then tailor your posts to what they might like to see.

As for using previous clients, they are the best marketing tools you will have. They will either sing praises about what you provided them, or they will let you know what function needs repairing. They make for a very influential community that you can use. Ask them to rate what you sold them so others know how you do business. It’s all up to you how you will market your business, but at least in my case for now I’m utilizing social media as much as I can to get the word out. We’ll see what happens down the line.
